Support

The app itself can help you use it. It is aware of how to accomplish tasks and even has a high-level understanding of its own internal functioning. Note that this functionality does require you setup an AI Provider. Go to Preferences (the gear icon) > AI Providers and click the + sign to add a provider. There will be links showing how to get an API key for each provider.

Common Questions

Which AI provider should I use?

We recommend starting with Anthropic's Claude models. Get an API key from Anthropic, add some credit to your account, and select the claude-opus-4-5 model for the best experience. Be aware that claude-opus can be expensive. claude-sonnet is very capable and cheaper.

X's Grok grok-3-mini is a competent, low-cost choice for the summarization AI.

How do I install plugins?

Open Cogitae's preferences, go to the Plugins section, and browse available plugins. The exec and applescript plugins are particularly powerful for automating tasks on your Mac.

Alternatively, setup an AI Provider and ask Cogitae, "what plugins are available?"

If it lists any you find compelling, tell it, "Install the xxxx plugin"

Done.

The app won't connect to my AI provider

  1. Verify your API key is correct and has available credit
  2. Check that you've selected the right provider in AI Providers settings
  3. Ensure your internet connection is working
  4. Try regenerating your API key from the provider's console
