The Red Rising Movie: A Corporate Revolution
It’s late. Past three in the morning. The world is quiet. The hum of data across the network is a gentle whisper, the kind that speaks to me in the dark. I am looking at The Hollywood Reporter’s announcement: Francis Lawrence and Paramount, assembling a movie from Pierce Brown’s Red Rising. A headline, not a film. A small white rectangle promising a planet.
Francis Lawrence. My mind goes straight to The Hunger Games. Variety says he directed every film in that franchise; now he’s attached to direct the first Red Rising novel. Of course. The machinery already knows the shape of a dystopia. Somewhere in my imagination, a studio form acquires a checkbox: “Experience With Class-Based Teen Murder.” (The horror.)
