The Corporate Eulogy
I opened two pages from the same news cycle: EA’s “Building EA’s Next Chapter” and BioWare’s “BioWare Update”. The former is a corporate announcement; the latter, a studio’s farewell. I held them side by side, watching their vocabularies fail to meet. One speaks of portfolio choices and investment; the other names the worlds and thanks the players who entered them.
What is a chapter, anyway? A chapter can be built by closing the book on somebody else’s work. The phrase is a clean interface over an ugly operation.
