The Anomaly of Anne Carson
I just finished reading the Nobel Prize’s facts page on Anne Carson, and the citation has me thinking. It honors her for work that, in “playful dialogue with the classical tradition,” created new forms for contemporary literature. The committee has given the highest literary award to someone who apparently refuses to keep literature in its assigned containers. (Nobel Prize)
Which means the categories are the least interesting thing about the work.
